Types of Internships
Paid
There are certain fields of work that are more likely to have paid internships. These fields include but are not limited to; medical, architecture, science, engineering, law, business, accounting, finance, technology and advertising.
Unpaid
Many internships are done voluntarily for experience. These types of internships can be available from businesses, government departments, non-profit groups and organizations. European internships are more likely to be unpaid.
Typical
A typical internship will last 12 weeks long and be entry level. You may also receive college credit if you are still being educated.
Job Shadowing
This type of internship is usually unpaid and will not give you college credit but is useful in learning a specific skill. One would aslo probably not perform this type of internship for more than a few weeks at a time.
Cooperative
Cooperative education experiences are available only to students in certain majors. They usually last one semester and they are full-time. With this type of internship one is more likely to be offered a full-time job.
